Important Information for Foreign Travelers

All passengers must carry their original passport and original Tourist Visa / country entry card and present them at check-in at each refugio, hostería, or hotel included in the program. These documents are required to apply the Chilean tax exemption. If they are not presented, the accommodation will be required by law to charge the 19% Chilean Sales Tax (IVA).

We strongly recommend that each passenger takes a photo of their Chilean entry card upon arrival and keeps it stored on their mobile phone until leaving the country. In case the original document is lost, this photo can help demonstrate your tourist status in Chile.

Please note that this requirement applies individually to each passenger and at every accommodation during the trip.

What to Pack for the W Trek

🎒 Backpack

Packing properly for the W Trek in Torres del Paine is essential to fully enjoy one of Patagonia’s most iconic hiking experiences. During this 4-day, 3-night program, guests will stay in a combination of campgrounds and refugios, all with full board included (dinner, breakfast, and box lunch). As you will carry your backpack between accommodations, packing light and efficiently is highly recommended.

  • Main backpack (40–50 liters) suitable for multi-day trekking

  • Rain cover for your backpack

  • Optional small daypack for daily hikes

👕 Clothing – Layering System

Patagonia’s weather can change quickly, even within the same day. A proper layering system is essential:

  • Moisture-wicking base layers (top and bottom)

  • Quick-dry hiking pants

  • Warm mid-layer (fleece or light down jacket)

  • Waterproof and windproof jacket and pants

  • Hiking socks (3–4 pairs)

  • Underwear for the duration of the trek

  • Warm hat, gloves, and neck gaiter or buff

  • Sturdy, broken-in hiking boots

  • Lightweight shoes or sandals for camp/refugio use

🍽️ Food & Meals

Accommodation includes dinner, breakfast, and box lunch at the camps and refugios. Please note: meal service starts with dinner on the first night. For this reason, each participant must bring their own food for Day 1, as no lunch is included on the first hiking day.

Recommended items for Day 1:

  • Sandwiches or wraps

  • Energy bars or protein bars

  • Trail mix, nuts, or dried fruit

  • Personal snacks

Box lunches provided on subsequent days typically include a sandwich, fruit, snacks, and a sweet item.

🚰 Water & Hydration

  • Reusable water bottle (water is available at camps and refugios)

🛠️ Gear & Personal Items

  • Headlamp or flashlight

  • Trekking poles (optional but highly recommended)

  • Sunglasses

  • Sunscreen and lip balm

  • Basic toiletries and quick-dry towel

  • Personal medication and small first-aid kit (including blister care)

  • Power bank or portable charger

  • Small dry bags or plastic bags for wet clothes

  • Camera or phone

🥾 Final Recommendation

Aim to keep your backpack as light as possible while still being prepared for changing weather conditions. A well-packed backpack will greatly enhance your comfort and overall trekking experience in Torres del Paine.
